Camera Settings Guide

Get a complete, field-tested camera settings guide tailored for helicopter shooting. Learn how to handle motion, vibration, and low-light conditions to consistently capture sharp, professional-quality aerial images.

Doors-Off Shooting Experience

Shoot with no barriers between you and the landscape. The doors-off configuration provides a completely unobstructed view, allowing you to compose cleaner, more immersive images without reflections or limitations.

Professional Gyro Stabilizer

Use a high-end gyro stabilizer designed to reduce vibration and motion blur during flight. This essential tool helps you maintain image sharpness, especially in low-light conditions and at longer focal lengths and slower shutter speeds.

Golden Hour to Dusk Timing

Photograph during the most dynamic lighting window of the day. Capture warm golden tones, dramatic shadows, and the transition into city lights—giving your portfolio a diverse and cinematic range of images.

Guided In-Flight Instruction

Receive real-time direction from an experienced aerial photographer. From composition tips to timing your shots, you’ll be guided throughout the flight to ensure you capture the strongest possible images.
Fly a carefully designed route optimized for photography. Key landmarks, lighting angles, and timing are strategically planned in advance so you can focus on shooting without missing critical moments.

In-Flight Safety

What to Expect

Helicopter aerial photography is an exciting and fast-paced experience, but it also comes with unique environmental and safety considerations.

Cold Conditions

Even on a warm California day, temperatures drop significantly in flight, especially in the evening. With doors removed and airspeeds around 100 mph, it can feel very cold. A warm jacket is essential, and many participants choose to wear a balaclava or similar face covering for comfort.

Safety and Equipment Security

All equipment must be properly secured before flight. Nothing can be loose or at risk of being dropped or blown out of the aircraft. Every item will be checked and confirmed secure prior to takeoff to ensure a safe operating environment.

Flight Planning and Timing

Helicopter flights move quickly, and photographic opportunities can pass in seconds. We will plan your flight path and key shooting locations in advance to maximize efficiency and ensure you are prepared to capture each shot.
